🧯 Life Safety Wins: Where Compliance Meets Creativity

In the world of design and construction, life safety isn’t just a checkbox—it’s a critical layer that protects people, property, and projects. At Dalkita, we specialize in helping building owners, architects, and engineers navigate the complex web of fire and life safety codes with clarity and confidence.

The Challenge:
Code requirements can be overwhelming—especially when they affect layout, materials, equipment placement, or occupancy types. Whether you’re designing a distillery with hazardous classifications or a multi-level residence with unique access needs, compliance must be part of the conversation from day one.

A clear and visible ‘EXIT’ sign, essential for ensuring safe egress in building design.

Our Approach:
We turn code into opportunity. By integrating sprinkler layouts, egress plans, occupancy load calculations, and fire separation strategies into the early stages of design, we help ensure that spaces are both safe and buildable—without sacrificing aesthetics or function.

A Recent Win:
On a recent project, Dalkita consulted on code analyses/ code compliance of a distillery. We worked with the local architect and client to adjust the plan to make it safe, compliant, function as intended, and beautiful. Some of the main code consulting aspects we covered were:

  • Occupancies were determined in the correct areas, based on equipment used.
  • Fire Barriers were provided where needed, and not provided where unnecessary.
  • Egress was analyzed for compliance, with doors provided at required separation, and max travel distances complying with code
  • Tanks were provided with a secondary containment surrounding, and calculations were completed to decide containment wall height.
  • Calculations were completed to find the required ventilation rate that electrically de-classifies the entire distillery. We worked closely with MEP engineers to adjust exhaust fan locations, etc.
  • The building had other existing buildings very close next to it. This triggered a close analysis of exterior wall fire ratings. The analysis was completed. Some exterior walls were adjusted to be fire rated as needed.

Why It Matters:
Life safety is more than regulatory—it’s essential to the longevity and success of your project. At Dalkita, we bring decades of code experience, architectural insight, and practical foresight to every detail.
